The Summer Mountain Leader run by Leading Edge is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland. If you love being out in the mountains and want to share your enthusiasm with others, become a Mountain Leader. Mountain Leaders operate the length and breadth of the country with all sorts of groups of people; from scouts and schoolchildren to outdoor instructors and those that have retired. The award is what you make it and there are countless opportunities for passionate Mountain Leaders.
You must be at least 18 years old to attend the Summer Mountain Leader Scheme with Leading Edge. You should also have at least a year's worth of experience of mountain walking, have logged 20 mountain days and have an interest in leading groups in the mountains.
You must be a member of a mountaineering council: BMC, Mountaineering Scotland or Mountaineering Ireland (you can join one when you register if you're not already a member)
Before you book onto a Leading Edge Summer Mountain Leader Training please make sure you have registered on the scheme with Mountain Training.
Leading edge offer a relaxed, open and friendly course, progressivally taking you through the key group management, navigation and environmental elements. We will help you develop, hone and polish your personal skills, all the time imparting teaching and coaching techniques you can use when working with others. You will leave inspired, motivated and with a personal action plan of what you need to do before coming forward for assessment.
Assessments are run in an atmosphere which ensures we get the best performance from you we can. Again it is relaxed and open, encouraging discussion and debate around many subjects.
